Jamaica – Fine Dining

“Named for the trees that line the beach at the Half Moon resorts, this beachside restaurant is open to the public. At lunchtime, a superb buffet and à la carte menu are available. Standout buffet options include roast meats and freshly baked breads. At dinner there’s a good selection of seafood, steaks, and ribs, including the herb-roasted Angus beef tenderloin, red wine–braised short ribs, and grilled yellowfin tuna.” – Berkeleyguides.com

“Upscale Caribbean cuisine, stunning cliff-side dining, and romance make this one of the best places to eat on Negril’s West End. Watch the spectacular sunset while enjoying a cocktail by the simple thatched bar and eatery, decorated with funky art. Dinner opens with a delicious complimentary conch soup. Beautifully presented appetizers include the Calypso Trio—three of the most requested dishes: chicken, sweet pepper, tomato, and pineapple skewer; jerk shrimp; and a Caribbean crab cake with Ivan dip. Don’t miss entrées like grilled lobster with garlic butter and mashed potatoes and the seafood linguine: shrimp, lobster, and snapper in a creamy white-wine sauce. For the flambéed banana or pineapple dessert, overproof rum is set on fire for you to blow out and pour over ice cream. Frozen cheesecakes like chocolate mocha, key-lime pie, and peanut butter swirl are also available. You can dress up or dine in casual wear.” – Fodors.com

“This restaurant is a must for dinner at least once. The open-air dining area has huge comfy bamboo sofas where you can relax for an aperitif or after-dinner drink; tables are arranged near the cliff for sensational seaside dining. For special occasions, private tables for groups can be set up in a cabana, on an intimate terrace, or on a lower deck. The menu features both traditional Jamaican cooking and Rockhouse’s interpretation of “new Jamaican cuisine,” inspired by the many cultures that have come to the island. Staff are friendly and attentive. Much of the food is organically grown right across the road.” – Fodors.com

“A favorite with Kingstonians for its elegant Sunday brunch, Strawberry Hill has a stunning location; the open-air terrace has spectacular views of the city and countryside. The restaurant serves a prix-fixe menu with constantly changing dishes for lunch and dinner. Entrées include curried shrimp, coconut-crusted snapper, and Jamaican favorites such as curried goat and jerk chicken. The greens, the milk, and much of the other ingredients come from the Island Outpost farm in the parish of Trelawny and from local farmers. The bar area, a good place for cocktails or after-dinner drinks, features a piano and a fireplace that’s usually ablaze in the cool evenings of the Blue Mountains.” – Fodors.com
